🎬 The Role
Our client is seeking a Director of Engineering to be the senior operational leader responsible for building, managing, and scaling the engineering capability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in modern backend architecture (Node.js, Python, microservices) and cloud deployments and a proven ability to lead and manage both internal engineering staff and external BOT/vendor teams to ensure high-quality, timely, and secure product delivery.
The Director of Engineering will own the execution and delivery of all technology initiatives across the platform ecosystem. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires deep technical grounding, exceptional leadership discipline, and the ability to turn strategic vision into reliable execution.
👤 The Responsibilities
Team Building: Build and manage a high-performing, multi-disciplinary engineering organization encompassing backend, frontend, AI/ML, QA, DevOps, and integration specialists.
Operational Discipline: Lead day-to-day operations of all internal engineers and external BOT team members.
Process Establishment: Establish core engineering processes, including coding standards, documentation practices, and formalized performance reviews.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ensure strong collaboration and operational continuity with the Product, Operations and Support Teams.
Execution Ownership: Own and manage all stages of the delivery cycle: sprint planning, delivery cycles, release management, and cross-team coordination.
Platform Health: Oversee the stability, scalability, and security of all core platforms (Nexus, Ask AIP, AMS, AIT).
SLA Management: Ensure that bugs, enhancements, and support issues are handled promptly and within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Architectural Oversight: Work closely with the CAIO on strategic technical direction, review and challenge architectural decisions, and ensure a unified technical vision across all modules and jurisdictions.
Third-Party Governance: Manage day-to-day interactions and lead the operational governance of external BOT teams and technology vendors (e.g., Ascent).
Standards Enforcement: Ensure all third-party work, proposals, and bids meet the client's standards for quality, security, and IP protection.
Integration Supervision: Supervise API and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) integrations with critical external systems (IP offices, payment gateways, enterprise IPMS systems) to ensure long-term reliability and maintainability of automations.
🎓 The Skills & Competencies
Experience: 8–12+ years of engineering experience, with a minimum of 4+ years in a senior leadership role (Director/Head of Engineering).
Backend & Cloud: Strong background in modern backend architecture (Node.js, Python, microservices) and cloud deployments.
Frontend & APIs: Hands-on experience with frontend frameworks (React, Next.js) and API-driven platforms.
AI/ML Context: Required familiarity with AI/ML workflows, RAG systems, LLM integrations, and agentic architectures.
DevOps/Infra: Deep knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps practices, cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure), and system observability.
